United Airlines steps out on the fashion runway Print E-mail

unitedairlines First came the new livery with the stylized globe on the plane tails. New comes a new look in uniforms at United Airlines (NYSE: UAL).

Starting June 25, employees will don uniforms that further underscore the reality that United is a new airline sprung from the merger of United Airlines and Continental Airlines. United pilots, however, aren't expected to get their new outfits until the fourth quarter of this year. Altogether, approximately 60,000 United employees will get the new duds.

The new designs come in various shades of blue, gray and black — a range of colors familiar to passengers of both the merged carriers.

According to a United spokesman, the airline did not seek out a name fashion designer to create the new look. Rather the carrier considered several suppliers, but finally went with the one that made what United employees considered the most comfortable, yet attractive options.

The new accessories for men include ties in light blue and gold, as well as a rep tie that combines blues and gold. The men's suits are rather basic sack suit styles. For women, the options range from a gray suit to a navy blue pantsuit to a royal blue dress with horizontal and vertical dark stripes and a black belt.

UNISYNCLOGO Canadian-based apparel provider honoured as one of the best corporate suppliers in North America

Toronto, ON – Today, Unisync Group, a North American leader in corporate apparel and promotional products, announces it has received three awards from the North-American Association of Uniform Manufacturers & Distributors (NAUMD), the industry’s highest achievement. The awards are for three business-changing apparel programs with Unisync clients: The Ottawa Hospital, Rexall, and Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada.

NAUMD’s annual Image of the Year (IOY) Awards honours excellence in both the design and wear of image and corporate apparel programs. The award is the industry’s highest achievement and is selected by an independent panel of judges representing the fashion industry's most celebrated designers, journalists and fashion authorities.

“Rexall is committed to continuously improving our customer experience - from the introduction of exciting new products to the look and feel of our retail stores. Redesigning our employees' clothing was another important element in this focus,” says Paul Dale, Executive Vice President, Store Operations. “Our employees are the ambassadors of our brand. The uniforms that Unisync designed and developed helped to bring a sense of excitement to our staff, while also bringing the brand to life in our stores for our customers and patients.”

There is a saying that “the clothes make the person” which is equally true of image apparel. As a leader in the space, Unisync understands that strong uniform design can provide a visual extension of a brand story, and ultimately helps to illustrate the true DNA of the brand. In some cases, superior uniform design creates work efficiencies, like is the case at The Ottawa Hospital.

“The Unisync team could not be more deserving of this honour,” said Frances Furmankiewicz, Retired Director of Business Development, The Ottawa Hospital. “They really understand the impact that employee clothing can have on an organizations brand, as well as function.  The colour-coded uniform program that was developed and designed for our team was literally a business changer, both for our entire staff and for our patients.”

“As we embarked on designing a new uniform, we consulted with our members and it was clear the girls all wanted something modern, practical and comfortable.” says Pat Nykor, Supervisor of Merchandising, Girl Guides of Canada.  “The contemporary uniform that Unisync designed unites the different branches in girl-guiding and truly reflects the dynamic and cohesive organization that Girl Guides is today – and our members love them.”

Unisync was presented with the IOY Award for its work with The Ottawa Hospital in the category of Healthcare; in the category of Community Service for its program with Girl Guides of Canada; and won in the category for Retail Establishments/Non Food for Rexall.

“We are proud of the apparel programs that were developed for our customers, and to be honoured with three NAUMD awards this year is just the cherry on top,” says B. James Bottoms, COO, Unisync Group. “We are experts in image apparel and are thrilled to be recognized for the important work our team has achieved for our customers.”

Moisture Management Apparel not Just for Athletes Print E-mail
Monday, 06 May 2013 09:43

unifirst_shirt WILMINGTON, Mass. -- Moisture management apparel, also referred to as performance apparel, is not just for athletes any more. It's also fast becoming a garment choice for employees who work in hot and demanding environments, as well as anyone interested in maximum on-the-job comfort, no matter the work activity or surrounding temperatures.

Moisture management apparel is made entirely or partially from synthetic fabrics, such as polyester, since these manmade fibers can be manufactured to create air pockets that serve as funneling tubes to wick moisture away from skin. Such wicking action, in effect, mimics capillaries in the human body, which push oxygenated blood from inner arteries to outlying cellular tissues.

Temperature and worker exertion levels will typically dictate whether moisture management apparel is 100 percent synthetic -- to maximize its wicking characteristics, or a blend of fabrics, such as 65/35 poly/cotton -- to take advantage of the natural fiber's supple and abrasion-resistant characteristics.

As styling options have increased in recent years, so has the popularity of moisture management apparel. "At one time, if you wanted moisture management clothing, your choices were often limited to t-shirts," says Adam Soreff, Director of Marketing at UniFirst, a leading provider of uniforms and workwear to businesses throughout the U.S. and Canada. "That's all changed. Today, moisture management apparel includes such items as t-shirts, polo shirts, and a wide selection of industrial and other workwear shirts. At UniFirst, we even offer performance wear that's flame resistant."

Moisture management innovators are now able to weave fibers into small patterns on shirts that provide extra strength to the resulting fabric without any increase in weight. "One of the more popular weaves is known as micro pique," Soreff says. "Micro pique features mini geometric patterns on the fabric face; the added strength allows the apparel to withstand the rigors of tough work, as well as the industrial wash processes used in uniform rental programs like ours."

By helping to regulate body temperature, moisture management apparel has been shown to improve muscle performance and worker productivity. And that can be considered a "home run" on every athletic or business manager's scorecard.

UniFirst (NYSE: UNF), a North American leader in the supply and servicing of uniforms, workwear, and protective clothing, outfits more than 1.5 million workers each business day. Cintas Customers Earn Accolades at the NAUMD Image of the Year Awards Print E-mail

cintas Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Grand Hyatt San Francisco and The Breakers Palm Beach win for edgy, elegant & versatile uniform designs

CHICAGO—For the 14th consecutive year, customers of Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS) won Image of the Year (IOY) awards during a banquet held by the North American Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors (NAUMD) in Orlando, Fla. Selected from an extensive list of prominent nominees, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Grand Hyatt San Francisco and The Breakers Palm Beach were presented with awards based on the design, versatility and quality of their apparel programs.

“Each year, Cintas impresses us with the amount of detail and creativity they put into the uniform process and how it translates into meeting or exceeding its clients’ goals,” said Richard J. Lerman, president and CEO of the NAUMD. “We are pleased to celebrate their uniform expertise and programs with the awards, which recognize the best in corporate workwear.”

Winner in the multi-unit hotel category, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, the signature brand of Marriott International, partnered with Cintas to create the RED Collection—a new line of contemporary suiting that speaks to the brand’s heritage and passion with bold red hues. As Marriott Hotels & Resorts’ signature color, red plays an intricate part of the uniform program, standing out against backdrops of charcoal grey or black while making bold, modern statements in the form of accessories.

“Symbolizing passion and energy, red shows up throughout the Marriott collection as the thread that ties all the pieces together,” said Jeff Marino, Creative Director, Cintas. “The stylish, contemporary design provides Marriott’s team with impeccable taste and style, and emphasizes their role around the world as true hosts.”

Winner of the single-unit award went to Grand Hyatt San Francisco, where Cintas fashion designer Robert Fajfrowski created uniforms that reflect the city’s trendy atmosphere and strong emphasis on architecture and design. Using innovative trims, textures, colors and cuts, Cintas created an edgy, yet sophisticated look for staff in customer-facing positions, including front desk, lounge and banquet personnel.

“The key for this client was to depict a progressive hotel experience through funky, yet professional uniform designs,” said Fajfrowski. “A huge inspiration for the program was the hotel’s brand identity and San Francisco’s reputation as a trendsetter.”

In the fine-dining category, Cintas partnered with The Breakers Palm Beach to create a uniform program resembling the elegance of the 1950s and 60s. Partially inspired by “Mad Men”—an AMC hit television series—the program sets the stage for drama and impact with multi-pleat dresses, textural fabric juxtapositions, and Dior-esque bow belts. Predominantly black with white and red accents, the uniforms capture the elegant, refined look of the previous decades while incorporating elements from the 21st century.

“The goal for this program was to create a memorable apparel program more in line with costumes than uniforms,” said Fajfrowski. “The wardrobe, along with staff hair and makeup, sets the stage for performance and captures the spirit of the 50s and 60s cocktail environment—perfect for guests seeking a true getaway.”

“We are very proud of the work that went into these apparel collections and honored that they are being recognized by the NAUMD awards” said Todd McKeown, Vice President Global Hospitality and Gaming, Cintas. “The awards are a testament to our team’s ability to create innovative, stylish apparel and deliver workwear programs that meet our clients’ objectives. It is inspiring to see our customers’ ideas develop into image programs that reflect their unique brands.”
